Great news for Formula 1 fans in the US!!

Formula 1 has agreed to a 10 years deal to host a Formula 1 GP in Austin starting 2012 on a purpose built track!

More FIA nonesense

Hi folks,

There will be a rant posted in few hours on youtube in episode 3 of Rants on Formula 1, but the decision by the stewards (which included Damon Hill let’s not forget) is complete bullsh*t. The rules are bullsh*t, and the interpretation is bullsh*t.

As Formula 1 fans, we are treated almost with disdain by the teams and FIA rules. This was a brilliant move at the end of a race by Schumacher on Alonso. The flags were green, the Safety Car lights were off, the Safety Car was off the track, and he passed after the Safety Car lane.

All these rules restricting overtaking, like this one, need to be written off. The sport has to be exciting again. If I wanted to be bored to death, I would watch the same crap my wife does on TV.

Mercedes bringing back shorter Wheelbase

Because of the tight corner characteristics of Monaco’s street circuit, Mercedes is bringing back the shorter wheelbase for this weekend. The shorter wheelbase will allow the w01 to have a tighter turning radius allowing the W01 to turn into the corners more tightly clipping the apex especially corner 6 which is taken at 30 MPH in 1st gear.

Red Bull Pace

The Barcelona GP clearly highlighted how far ahead Red Bull cars are in terms of pace. In qualification yesterday, they were 0.8 seconds clear on Hamilton’s McLaren. Even though their race trim is not quite as impressive as their qualification pace, they are still miles ahead of the competition.

The Renault engine they are running is not as powerful as Mercedes and Ferrari engine, so the pace has to be coming from elsewhere leading many to believe that their pace is due to downforce.

Almost everyone was surprised by the huge step Red Bull has taken with the new updates building on an already successful car. The fact that Red Bull will be introducing new upgrades to their cars in Turkey must be striking fear in the hearts of their opponents.

Nick Fry, CEO of Mercedes GP, told the BBC that they know where a part of Red Bull’s pace is coming from. Does that mean that Red Bull have figured out something about aerodynamics that have alluded other teams so far?

It is more likely that the design team at Red Bull have figured out how to take full advantage of the new tire compounds.

If the Red Bull team are able to maintain their advantage, and improve reliability, the question facing their rivals will be at what point do they stop developing this year’s car and focus on the 2011 design!

In the Beginning

This is the beginning of what I hope to be a fun journey into the world of Formula 1. I am a fan, nothing more nothing less. I believe that without the fan voicing their opinions, the sport will deteriorate.

This blog is going to be a companion to my youtube’s channel. On the channel, I will regularly post my thoughts as well as news about the sport.
